Laurie Lewis, Tom Rozum, Nathan McEuen, and
Mark Robertson-Tessi
join forces for an evening of
bluegrass, folk, and fun
March 23, 2013.
Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum
with Nathan McEuen
and Mark Robertson-Tessi Saturday, March 23 – 7:00 pm
Laurie Lewis has truly established herself as one of the finest, most diversely talented folk artists in traditional American and bluegrass music today. Lewis is a gifted fiddler, deft guitarist, inspired songwriter, and powerfully evocative singer.
Lewis and Rozum started performing together in 1987 when he joined her band Grant Street, a talent-laden combo that boosted the careers of string experts like banjo player Tony Furtado and guitarist Scott Nygaard. But after a serious car wreck in Arizona in 1994, the sudden confrontation with mortality led Lewis and Rozum to focus on honing the duo act they’d long thought about pursuing.
Tom’s versatility and his background as a rock and swing musician adds a uniquely satisfying flavor to Laurie’s fiddle-playing and vocals. He plays primarily mandolin with the band, but is also an accomplished fiddle, mandola, and guitar player. Laurie Lewis, Tom Rozum, and friends Nathan McEuen on the road and connected with nature
In the past 8 years, Nathan has written and produced five full length CD’s, Grand Design (2005), Festival (2007), Scrapbook (2010), Nathan McEuen (2012), and The McEuen Sessions (2012), and in that time, he has performed with The Steve Martin Band on American Idol Season Finale 8, with Hanna-McEuen on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show, and at The Grand Ole Opry three times.
Other career highlights for Nathan include working with Jim Messina, Chris Hillman, Graham Nash, Dave Mason, Dwight Yoakam, The Avett Brothers, Leon Russell, Kenny Loggins, David Crosby, The David Grisman Quintet, Vassar Clements, Herb Peterson, The Grascals, Lyle Lovett, Kevin Nealon, Willie Nelson, John Denver, Bob Schneider, Chris Isaak, Sara Watkins, Brett Dennen, Riders In The Sky, Chelsea Williams, Jake Owen, Crosby Loggins, The Dillards, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and more. Nathan has been performing for 18 years and has done thousands of live performances, written over 60 songs, and sold over 50,000 CDs. Nathan’s heritage and his passion for music, entertaining, and performing shine through and can best be experienced in person. Mark Robertson-Tessi on mandolin and guitar

1996 Grammy nominees for Best Traditional Folk Album, Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum, play everything from straight-up bluegrass to traditional country to selections from more contemporary genres.
“It’s possible to be a strong female presence in the Bluegrass music world, but you have to be really strong. Laurie is one of the greatest Bluegrass artists, woman or man, because of her consistency over decades, the depth and width of her subject matter, her commitment to the Bluegrass form, and her technical command…”-Darol Anger
Tom Rozum is a former Tucsonan who played with the popular band, Summerdog Bluegrass and Mariachi Experience, back in the 70′s.

'All organic, you know?'
Well-known to Tucson audiences, Nathan McEuen returns to the Vail Theatre of the Arts on the heels of an extremely productive year which included opening for Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood at the Grand Ole Opry. “For All the Good – The McEuen Sessions”, recorded in 2012 with his talented brother, Jonathan McEuen, and their famous father, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s John McEuen, has charted #6 in sales and #1 in customer ratings on Amazon’s Alt-Country chart. Nathan has been a featured artist on Yahoo, Voice of America Radio, XM/Sirius satellite radio, and iTunes.
Nathan will be accompanied by former Tucsonan Mark Robertson-Tessi. Mark is a virtuosic multi-instrumentalist whose specialty is mandolin. He was a long time member of The String Figures and Round The House. His career took him to Florida a few years ago. He and Nathan have combined their talents for some shows on the East Coast, and now Mark returns to Tucson to do this special show with Nathan at the Vail Theatre of the Arts.
The Kruger Brothers with opening act The Dreadnutts in concert

The Kruger Brothers and opening act, The Dreadnutts, will perform an evening of
bluegrass, folk, and fun
Thursday, September 12, 2013.
The Kruger Brothers
with opening act The Dreadnutts Thursday, September 12 – 7:00 pm
“The Kruger Brothers are just about as fine a band as I’ve ever played with.
I love to play music with them.” – Doc Watson
| Born and raised in Europe, brothers Jens and Uwe Kruger started singing and playing instruments at a very young age. Growing up in a family where music was an important part of life, they were exposed to a wide diversity of musical influences. The brothers were performing regularly by the time they were 11 and 12 years old, and they began their professional career in 1979. Joel Landsberg, a native of New York City who also had a very extensive musical upbringing, joined the brothers in the early 90s and together they established the incomparable sound that the trio is known for today. Formally introduced to American audiences in 1997, the Kruger Brothers’ remarkable instrumentals and unique take on the American Songbook have made them a fixture within the world of acoustic music. | |
|
Although initially staying fairly close to a traditional repertoire, the group later turned to song writing and composition in order to draw more closely from their personal experiences. The result is a catalog of songs distinguished by rich detail and an insight into the delicacy and complexity of everyday life. The honesty of their writing has since become a hallmark of the trio’s work. Their original music, composed by Jens Kruger, is crafted around their discerning taste, and the result is unpretentious, cultivated, and delightfully fresh.
Through their numerous CD releases, radio and television performances, lectures, and collaborative efforts, the Kruger Brothers’ powerful artistic statement inspires and enlightens. |

| Be forewarned! The Dreadnutts have guitars and they are not afraid to use them. They also have solid three-part harmonies, a bass and mandolin, and a repertoire that runs the gamut from John Fogerty to the Everly Brothers. Winners of the Telluride Bluegrass Band contest in 1991 and reunited for the first time in almost two decades, the Dreadnutts are once again riding the wide open acoustic spaces of the desert Southwest. The five members of the group are no strangers to the western musical landscape. Bob Meighan, Peter McLaughlin, Earl Edmonson, Kirby Mittelmeier, and Brian Davies have all performed with various rock, bluegrass, and country bands over the years. |
| And they’ve won guitar-slinging awards: Earl is a Telluride fingerpicking champion with a golden voice, and Peter has won numerous flatpicking contests, including the 1988 National Flatpicking Competition held in Winfield, Kansas. Bob Meighan is a Capitol Records recording artist with soaring vocal abilities. Kirby plays the mandolin like it is his third arm, and he is known for the fun and inspiration he brings to any band. Brian, a local Tucson dentist, worked as a Hollywood side musician, playing guitar and electric bass during the Punk/New Wave/Metal era when MTV was getting its start. |
