Hallowed Ground:

Stories for the Season

An Evening of

Dance and Mime Theatre

Tuesday, Oct 29, 2019 – 7:00 pm

Wednesday, Oct 30, 2019 – 7:00 pm

Mika Deslongchamps and Rick Wamer join forces to create a delightfully spirited performance of Dance Theatre and Mime for the Season of All Hallows Eve at the Vail Theatre of the Arts in Tucson, October 29 and 30, 2019, at 7:00 pm each evening.

Mika brings her gift of dance and theatre since her days of dancing as a child, and Rick Wamer brings his iconic mime artistry to this all ages performance.

The evening will feature Mika Deslongchamps with an ensemble cast of nine dancers in several newly devised pieces such as DANCE MACABRE, a dance about how the jack-o-lantern fits in with modern society and walks the line between its scary history and desire for light, INFERNA, a suite of dance solos, and RAVEN, a piece intertwining dance and mime that interprets the famed Edgar Allan Poe poem, that will have Rick joining the ensemble.

Vail audiences that have seen Rick Wamer perform in Ballet Rincon’s annual Nutcracker have been asking to see his theatrical mime work for some time and they’re in for a treat. His work is not what American audiences are used to seeing, especially when it comes to mime. Hell reprise his solo piece commissioned by the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra, THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE, to the Paul Dukas score that most people know from the Disney film, FANTASIA.  In the piece he plays the Sorcerer, the Apprentice, and, the Broom.  A rigorous score is matched by a high energy performance.

Rick will also perform his rendition of local artist Grant Bashore’s memorable work DRACULA, and present a Tucson debut of THE BALLOON MAN’S NIGHTMARE, with Mika’s ensemble performing with Rick as a balloon vendor selling his wares in a park that is not what it appears to be.  The famed Marcel Marceau and long-time mentor of Rick Wamer, once spoke of Wamer’s performance abilities as, an impressive depth of interpretation and heart.

Tickets are limited for this two-night only special event performance.  Come and enjoy a hallowed evening sharing this unique story telling through the beauty of movement that speaks worlds of meaning.

A casting director has one day to find the leads for a community

theater production of Romeo and Juliet. But what seems like a simple

task proves impossible when the pool of actors includes extreme method

actors, performers who just don’t know what to do with their hands,

and one particular woman who may or may not think she’s a cat. This

hilarious comedy will bring you to the last place you’d ever want to

be…behind the doors of a casting session.

Vail Laughs

Vail Laughs is based on one simple idea:

Clean comedy for a good price.
Entertainment standards have definitely shifted over the years. As the world keeps moving faster, it takes more energy to get our attention in the noise. Unfortunately, much of our entertainment uses shock value and other cheap antics to get it. It’s almost a celebration of being rude and insulting, bringing the audience down right along with the entertainers.
But life is funny enough without having to be vulgar!
Think about this:

We drive to the gym so we can walk on a treadmill. We carry these high tech devices in our pockets, the knowledge of all the world at our fingertips and we use them to send each other videos of screaming goats. Or the irony of reaching adulthood and discovering our parents actually had a point about naps.

What a strange bunch of creatures we are!

Our award winning comedians are as committed to this ideal as we are, bringing you quality entertainment month after month and leaving behind all the vulgarity and cheap antics.  Quite simply, it’s high quality entertainment you can bring your entire family to. The most important decision you have for the evening is whether to leave the kids or the babysitter at home.

Jonathan Gregory broke onto the scene at the age of 19, as a punching dummy in a Mike Tyson promo, which aired on Showtime. In an attempt to extend his fifteen minutes of fame, he shocked American viewers while portraying the victim of a crazed fraternity in E! True Hollywood Story Investigates: Hazing. He showcased Herculean strength when he sustained 96 paddles from a giant wooden oar.

Still not humiliated enough, Gregory put his dunce cap on, and prepared himself for the worst. In 2008, Gregory’s talents were highlighted on NBC’s Last Comic Standing as Dick Dynamo, an intense personal trainer with a love for spandex, and delusions of grandeur. His outlandish character and sketch work landed him on Last Comic Standing’s top ten best of the worst episode. Ranking in at number ten, his status as the worst best of the worst comic was solidified.

Today, Jonathan Gregory’s unique one of a kind “creepy” comedy has audiences howling wherever he goes.  Jonathan has over 8 million hits on YouTube; and has been seen on the Comedy Time Network and the CW’s Jokesters TV.

Jonathan Gregory was named one of Thrillist’s “50 best undiscovered comedians”.  He has also featured for some of the biggest names in comedy including Chris Kattan, Fortune Feimster, Pete Davidson, Jessimae Peluso, and Big Jay Oakerson. Jonathan was a semi-finalist in the Laughlin Laugh Fest, a finalist at the World Series of Comedy, and winner of Arizona’s Funniest Comedian, and he likes pizza…

Amber Frame: What a charm this will be with Ambers’ take about how all advertising is based on fear, and that people on health food diets sound like they’re talking about drugs.  Everybody understands Amber’s sense of humor and will laugh with delight as she describes some of your friends to a T.

Her self-deprecating comedy pokes fun at her own “hipster” sensibilities, the culture shock of an east-coaster living in Arizona, and the joys and pitfalls of starting over in your thirties. Performing at the all-female showcase ‘Estrogen Hour’ at Laffs Comedy Café, and ‘Comedy at the Wench’ on Tucson’s 4th Avenue, has made Amber a household name (at least in her own house.)

The host for this fabulous night of comedy is Monte Benjamin. Monte Benjamin is an all around performer, comedian, and actor that’s revolutionizing comedy, Monte’s clean, high-impact, charismatic style of comedy is a breath of fresh air that will have you in tears with laughter! He been taking to the stage for more than 20 years, entertaining countless thousands of people all along the way from Tucson to his hometown of Miami, FL.

He has acted in stage plays and live productions all over the eastern part of the nation!  Monté has performed stand-up in clubs like:  Laff’s Comedy Club, Tucson AZ, Tempe Improv Tempe AZ, Stand Up Live, Phoenix AZ, Oak Leaf Comedy Corner, Jacksonville FL, and New York Comedy Club.

A Dueling Pianos show consists of two pianos and two musicians who sing and play songs directly from the guests request forms that are provided and distributed just prior to the show.

It’s an all-request, clap-a-long, sing-a-long, dance-a-long, audience-interactive dueling pianos show perfect for VailLaughs 3rd Anniversary. This unique style of comedy, country, and rock ‘n roll leaves audiences laughing, singing and cheering for more!

This show isn’t just a couple pianos playing songs…it’s request-driven mega-interaction! More than just dueling pianos and singalong…it’s audience interaction on STEROIDS. This show is performed by audience interactive experts whose career focus is audience involvement and entertainment for everybody filled with clean comedy and laughter.

What makes Dueling Pianos Show unique is they only play our guests request and it’s not a planned canned show – So no two shows are ever the same. Each is a customized show combining the musical effort of two extremely talented piano performers and singers, presenting an amazing quality of entertainment.

These talented musicians perform regularly throughout the country. The Dueling Pianos Show is like having a live band, DJ, and comedians all in one! The novelty of this show evolves around high-energy audience interactive, making the audience the stars of the show, so no two shows are ever the same. The audience makes the request, decides what is played, what they don’t play, and sometimes what they stop playing. That is all part of the fun.
