Is my child ready for school?
Thursday, March 8, 2012
Free event – 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Please join us for this FREE professional and parental development opportunity presented by Dr. Ida Rose Florez, Ph.D., N.C.S.P, Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives, First Things First.
The best way to close the achievement gap is to prevent the achievement gap. But how? Research has documented substantial disparities in children’s knowledge and competencies even at the beginning of kindergarten. Children who start school behind, often stay behind throughout their school career. Brain development and genetic research points to children’s ability to regulate their attention, emotions, and physical responses as fundamental to their early success in school. In this presentation Dr. Ida Rose Florez discusses how children develop self-regulation skills, how self-regulation prepares children for success in school, and what families and communities can do to promote their development.
